Orlando-based Impact Lighting has temporarily paused its usual work—think star ceilings and entertainment lighting—to meet a critical need on the frontlines. After learning about shortages while delivering meals to local hospitals, owner Paul Koren and longtime friend Brett Kingstone of Max King Realty quickly retooled operations to produce protective face shields for healthcare workers. Within hours of securing pallets of translucent, flexible polycarbonate, the team had shields running on their machines, demonstrating how fast local manufacturers can pivot when the community calls.
The effort has grown into a true partnership. Limbitless Solutions at UCD is contributing by making the visor components that attach to the plastic shields, helping create a complete solution for first responders, nurses, and surgeons who must frequently replace gear during high-risk procedures. In just 20 hours, Impact Lighting produced 2,000 face shields scheduled for delivery to area hospitals, and the team plans to keep manufacturing as long as materials are available and demand persists. It’s a day-by-day mission focused on getting essential protection to the people who need it most.
